2022 Training in Animal Husbandry
Animal Husbandry training held in November 2022 as part of the capacity building initiative in agriculture under Last Mile Project executed by the Grenada Country Forum. The Animal Husbandry training was over a four-day period with two (2) theoretical and two (2) interactive practical sessions.
The course series was conducted to provide training for livestock farmers in Grenada on Good Animal Husbandry practices by enhancing the technical capacity of Ministry of Agriculture Extension and SAEP officers, and to strengthen the relationship between RAS
providers and farmers to ensure sustainability in Livestock production. Therefore, online training covered the following tropics: Breeds and Breeding Selection; Animal Housing; Feeds, Feeding Management and Animal Nutrition; Good Animal Health Management; Farm record, keeping; Routine Farm Management Practices; Sustainable Livestock Production and Climate Smart Livestock Production; Livestock and Supply Chain and Livestock Regulations and Food Safety.
Practical training sessions were conducted at the TAMCC Mirabeau Campus (Farm School) in St. Andrew and at Oasis Poultry farm, Mt. Craven in St. Patrick focused on topics such as Determining the animals’ body weight by use of weight tape; use of the FAMACHA card to check eyes and if and how to properly deworm animals; Determining animals’ age by checking its teeth’s; Body Condition scoring; Hoof trimming and Brooding management and Post hatch feeding in Day Old chickens.
